techMARK Awards

Covering the period 1 October 2010 to 30 September 2011

technology fund manager of the year
Sponsored by Canaccord Genuity Limited.
(For past winners of this award, see Archive)
This is a straightforward factual award based on published performance data.

techMARK analyst of the year
Sponsored by Bloomberg
(For past winners of this award, see Archive)
This award is to recognise an individual, or a team, who have clearly demonstrated, in addition to understanding and appreciating the hugely diverse technologies in offer within techMARK, the priceless ability to communicate that knowledge with their target audience. Only techMARK companies and technology fund managers are expected to vote in this category.

technology innovation award
Sponsored by Barclays Corporate
Innovation lies at the very heart of successful techMARK companies and this award is given to recognise outstanding success in commercialising new technologies. The technology innovation which is the subject of the successful commercialisation may have been developed entirely within the quoted company or acquired in whole or part from outside and comprise all or part of the company’s intellectual property.

emerging star award
Sponsored by Arma Partners
The entire techMARK "club" was polled for their nominations in this new category. The Emerging Star will be a private company that has demonstrable credibility in terms of management team, industry experience, and financing commitments. The winner's focus on innovation will also be key, with its technology/IP capable of significant market impact or disruption. Quite possibly, the Emerging Star will not be able to demonstrate too much of a track record, but it will be judged against the demanding criteria that exists for its quoted company peers. All areas of tech are eligible for this new award, from Clean-Tech through to Bio-Tech. The purpose of this new award is absolutely not to suggest that the nominees are likely candidates for flotation, but rather for the quoted company sector to reach out into the private business technology sector to broaden knowledge and to exchange ideas, as well as helping private businesses understand what could be required of them in the quoted company.

technology journalist of the year
Sponsored by Luther Pendragon
(For past winners of this award, see Archive)
Pretty self explanatory, but essentially this award is given to recognise incisive, accurate, regular and readable commentary in what is clearly a specialist subject. In depth knowledge of the UK’s technology companies, public and private, will be key.

techMARK achievement of the year
Sponsored by Jefferies International Ltd
(For past winners of this award, see Archive)
This award, by its very nature, is extremely wide ranging and is being given to acknowledge outstanding achievement between 1 October 2010 and 30 September 2011. There are no hard and fast criteria concerning this award save that it will recognise exceptional achievement by an individual or a‑company, and that achievement could encompass a major contract or joint venture, a major fund raising, the launch of a‑product, the opening up of a new market, outstanding financial success or other notable achievements.

techMARK personality of the year
Sponsored by FinnCap
(For past winners of this award, see Archive)
techMARK has brought greater focus and awareness to some of the country's fastest growing companies, and the people that run them. Most, but not all, techMARK companies are young, pretty much all are innovative, and certainly every single one of them has, either at the helm or very close to it, a personality whose vision, drive, energy and commitment continue to make the company successful. He or she will be closely identified with the company in question, and they will be responsible for providing that vital ingredient that enables the company to stand head and shoulders above its competitors. Last year’s winner (for reference purposes only): Mike Lawrie, Misys plc

techMARK company of the year
(For past winners of this award, see Archive)
techMARK companies are, of course, noted for their technological achievements, but the techMARK company of the year will have harnessed those achievements and produced sound commercial and financial success. The techMARK company of the year will be a fully accountable, well managed, business that has already gained recognition by analysts and investors. But it will also have outstanding long term growth potential, with a sound strategy in place to ensure successful delivery of its commercial advantages and to build shareholder value.
